Costs & Coverage

How much does ABA therapy cost?

An honest answer: it depends on your authorised hours, the setting, and your specific insurance plan. Here's what actually drives the number — and how to find out yours.

The short answer: the cost of ABA therapy is driven by how many hours per week are clinically recommended and authorised, whether therapy happens in-center or in-home, and the terms of your insurance plan. Because those vary so widely between families, any single advertised price is misleading. The only accurate figure is the one that comes out of verifying your own benefits — which we do for you, free, before therapy begins.

We don’t publish a rate card, because a rate card would tell you almost nothing useful about what your family would actually pay. What we can do is be completely transparent about the variables and check your specific plan quickly.

What Drives the Number

Four things that determine ABA therapy cost

Authorised hours per week

This is the single biggest driver. A focused program targeting a few specific goals looks very different from a comprehensive early-intervention program. Your BCBA recommends a number of hours based on assessment, and your insurer authorises against that recommendation.

Setting — center, home, or hybrid

In-center and in-home therapy are billed differently, and some plans treat them differently too. Which setting suits your child is a clinical decision first; we then check how your specific plan covers it.

Assessment and reassessment

Before therapy begins, a BCBA completes a comprehensive assessment to build the treatment plan. Assessments are usually authorised separately from ongoing therapy hours, and are repeated periodically as goals are updated.

Your specific plan's benefits

Deductible, co-insurance, co-pay, out-of-pocket maximum, and whether we are in-network with your plan all change what a family actually pays. Two families with the same carrier can owe very different amounts.

Insurance

Plans we accept

We accept most major insurance providers. Coverage detail still varies plan to plan, so we verify every family’s benefits individually.

  • Aetna
  • Cigna
  • UnitedHealthcare
  • UHC Community Plan
  • Blue Cross Blue Shield
  • Medicaid
  • AHCCCS
  • Mercy Care
  • Arizona Complete Health

How we verify your benefits

  1. 1Contact us with your insurance details — carrier, plan name, and member ID.
  2. 2Our team runs benefit verification directly with your insurer.
  3. 3We walk you through what your plan covers, what it authorises, and what (if anything) is left for you.
  4. 4If you're not covered, or coverage is limited, we discuss private-pay options before anything begins.

Setting

In-center vs. in-home — what changes

Setting is a clinical decision first. But it does affect how therapy is billed, so it's worth understanding both.

In-center

Structured sessions at our Mesa clinic with peer interaction, group learning, and access to specialised materials. Often chosen by families preparing a child for preschool or kindergarten.

In-center therapy

In-home

Sessions in your own home, built into real routines, with caregivers coached alongside. No travel, and skills are practised where they’re actually needed.

In-home therapy

What's Included

Answers

Cost & coverage questions

How much does ABA therapy cost?

The cost of ABA therapy depends mainly on how many hours per week are authorised, whether therapy is delivered in-center or in-home, and the details of your insurance plan — deductible, co-insurance, and whether your provider is in-network. Because those variables differ so much between families, the only accurate figure is the one produced by verifying your specific benefits. Inspire Center for Autism runs that verification for you before therapy begins, at no charge.

Is ABA therapy covered by insurance in Arizona?

ABA therapy is covered by most major insurance plans, and Arizona's Medicaid program (AHCCCS) covers medically necessary behavioral health services for eligible children. Inspire accepts Aetna, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare and UHC Community Plan, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Medicaid, AHCCCS, Mercy Care, and Arizona Complete Health. Coverage specifics still vary by plan, which is why we verify benefits for every family.

Do I pay anything to find out what my coverage is?

No. Benefit verification is part of our enrollment process. Our team verifies your insurance coverage or discusses private-pay options so families understand their financial options before therapy begins.

What if I don't have insurance coverage for ABA?

Talk to us. Our team discusses private-pay options with families whose plans don't cover ABA or whose coverage is limited. We'd rather have that conversation up front than have you discover a gap later.

Does a diagnosis affect cost or coverage?

Most insurers require a formal autism diagnosis from a licensed professional before authorising ABA therapy. If your child hasn't been evaluated yet, our parent resources list local diagnostic options in the Phoenix area.
